Original kitchen

Three years ago, my wife and I bought a house in Boulder, Co.  We love the layout of the house, all the floors are connected, so its great with two small kids.  The major problem with the house was the kitchen.  The kitchen seems to be original to the house, and it is not very functional.  As you might be able to see in the picture below, there is a hallway, leading to the backdoor on one side of the kitchen.  This hallway almost cuts the size of the kitchen in half.

Below is a better picture of the hallway.

On the other side of the kitchen is the dining room.  The entrance to the back yard could easily be on this side of the kitchen, which would give us a lot more space to put cabinets, etc.  Currently the kitchen can only be used by one person at a time!

This is a look from the Dining room into the kitchen.

There are a few things we'd like to accomplish with a kitchen renovation:
  • Use the limited space we have more effectively (get rid of the hallway)
  • Put in sliding glass doors and windows along the back of the house to bring in more light.
  • Establish a nice bar area, where the kids can eat.
  • Modernize the look of the kitchen.
